Marmaris Castle |
|
It is believed that the castle was initially constructed during the Ionian period (1044 BC) and underwent later renovations during the reign of Alexander the Great. Marmaris Castle was further renovated and expanded during the rule of Suleiman the Magnificent, prior to the Rhodes expedition of 1522. In World War I, the castle faced bombardment by the French navy, resulting in significant damage. The castle served as a shelter until the 1970s. Eventually, between 1980 and 1990, the castle underwent restoration and was transformed into a museum in 1991. The panoramic view of Marmaris Bay from Marmaris Castle is breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for photography. The castle encompasses a total of 18 rooms, a fountain, and an arch. There are seven enclosed areas within the castle. |
